چکیده

A variety of superhard coatings with Vickers plastic hardness exceeding 40 GPa have been reported by several research groups during the last five years (for recent reviews see refs [1,2]). However, one has to distinguish between superhard nanocomposites, such as nc-TiN/a-Si3N4, nc-TiN/a-Si3N4/aand nc-TiSi2, nc-(Ti1-xAlx)N/a-Si3N4, nc-TiN/TiB2, ncTiN/BN, etc. where the high hardness originates from the nanostrucutre and, therefore, remains stable upon annealing to high temperatures [1], and coatings, such as CrN/Ni, ZrN/Ni, and others [2] in which the measured high hardness is due to a high compressive stress that is induced in the coatings due to energetic ion bombardment during their deposition (e.g., by magnetron sputtering). We also summarize the recent progress in the industrial applications of the superhard nanocomposite coatings on machining tools.

Corrosion Behaviour of TiN/a-C Superhard Nanocomposite Coatings Prepared by a Reactive DC Magnetron Sputtering Process

Nanocomposite coatings of TiN/a-C were prepared on tool steel substrates using a multitarget reactive DC magnetron sputtering process at various TiN layer thicknesses (0.6–2.8 nm). The a-C layer thickness was approximately 0.45 nm. Structural characterisation of the coatings was done by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Incorporation of an a-C phase in TiN matrix reduced crystallite size of the coatings...

Effects of ion bombardment on properties of d.c. sputtered superhard (Ti, Si, Al)N nanocomposite coatings

A d.c. reactive magnetron sputtering technique was used to deposit (Ti, Si, Al)N films. The ion current density in the substrate was varied by the superimposition of an axially symmetric external magnetic field between the substrate and target. It was found that the variation of the magnetic field strength induced changes in the ion current density in the substrate with a consequent change in f...

Synthesis of CuO-ZnO Nanocomposite and Its Photocatalytic Activity

In this paper, CuO-ZnO nanocomposite was synthesized and its photocatalytic dye degradation ability from colored wastewater was studied. Basic Red 18 (BR18) and Basic Violet 16 (BV16) were used as model dyes. The characteristics of CuO-ZnO of were investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Photocatalytic dy...
